Cybersecurity software company Avast recently found that the premium SMS fraud scheme contained 151 Android apps. The Ultima SMS Scheme campaign used a fake Android app to register users for the SMS service.

All of these apps used the same pattern which includes post download, area code, phone location for language determination, IMEI number and phone number verification.

What is fraud?
The fraud involved users using phone numbers and sign-in for their email addresses. This information has been used to sign up for the premium SMS service without the consent of the users. This type of charge is about ً 40, which means about Rs. 3,000 per month.
