New Delhi. The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, plans to distribute free mobile phones and tablets to about 10 million college students in the state. However, work on this project is still ongoing. The UP state government plans to provide free tablets and smartphones to graduate and postgraduate students from technical, medical and nursing institutions. It is said that the state government will distribute these devices only to those who are involved in skill development programs. This information has been given by the officials who are aware of this matter.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has spoken to officials about this in a meeting on Saturday. At the meeting, he directed to prepare a list of eligible students so that smartphones and tablets could be distributed among the students by the end of November. According to reports, Chief Secretary RK Tiwari said the devices would help digitally empower students and create job opportunities for them.

He has directed the state universities to prepare information of registered students of their affiliated colleges. At the same time, it has been directed to send this information to the offices of District Magistrates. The office will verify this information at the district level under the orders of the Department of Industrial Development and distribute smartphone tablets.

Importantly, UP CM Yogi Adityanath had announced that his government would lay the foundation stone of a government medical college in Sultanpur. Laying the foundation stone, it will distribute tablets and smartphones to youth by the end of November. If seen, this step could prove to be a good step for the UP government. This step is being taken to equip the students of Uttar Pradesh with modern technology. Under the initiative, distribution of tablets and laptops will start from the last week of November.

The announcement came after the budget was presented in the Uttar Pradesh state assembly in August this year. In this budget, there was talk of making the youth digitally skilled and Rs 3,000 crore was set aside for the purchase of smartphones and tablets. The government has already bid for 2.5 million smartphones and tablets. It is expected that more devices will be purchased soon.

The state government is planning to provide 2 million free laptops to its top students. These students may not be able to afford such equipment.
